Methodology
Methodology & Sources
This page explains, in plain English, how Zero/Sixty Showdown produces the figures and results you see on the race tool.
Base performance figures
The baseline 0–60 mph time for each vehicle is compiled from manufacturer-published information and reputable instrumented-test results. The dataset covers 474 cars and 100 bikes (574 vehicles in total) spanning the USA, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, France, Sweden, Japan and South Korea. These are the figures the tool uses as its starting point under dry conditions on each vehicle's factory tyres.
Real-world results can vary significantly from any published figure due to test methodology, rollout, surface, temperature, weather, tyres, vehicle specification and driver or rider. A single published number is therefore a useful comparison reference, not an exact prediction for every individual vehicle.
Condition-adjusted results are simulations
When you select a weather condition (wet, snow, ice or night) or a different tyre type, the tool applies a deterministic physics model that scales the baseline time based on available grip, drivetrain launch advantage, vehicle weight and the chosen tyres. These condition-adjusted results are simulations, not measured runs. They are consistent — the same vehicles in the same conditions always finish in the same order — but they are indicative rather than authoritative.
Modelled and estimated metrics
The tool offers four metrics: 0–60 mph, 0–62 mph, 0–100 km/h and quarter-mile. Where direct 0–62 mph, 0–100 km/h or quarter-mile data is not currently held for a given vehicle, the displayed result is modelled or estimated:
- 0–62 mph and 0–100 km/h are the same test (100 km/h ≈ 62 mph) expressed in different units, and are converted from the 0–60 mph baseline.
- Quarter-mile elapsed times are not stored. They are derived from the 0–60 mph figure using an empirical power-law relationship calibrated against published instrumented tests, and are labelled as estimates.
After a race, results that use modelled or converted data show an “ESTIMATED” label, and results run under non-default weather or tyre conditions show a “SIMULATED CONDITIONS” label.
For comparison and entertainment
The results are provided for comparison and entertainment and are not a guarantee of real-world performance. They must not be used to encourage racing or unsafe driving on public roads. Always drive legally and within the limits of the road, the conditions and your ability.
Sources
Figures are drawn from manufacturer-published specifications and reputable automotive instrumented-testing outlets. We do not claim that every individual figure has been independently verified by Zero/Sixty Showdown, and we do not fabricate individual source citations. Where a figure is an estimate or conversion, it is labelled as such.
Circuit outline sources and licences
The Track Lab circuit outlines are adapted from externally sourced, openly licensed SVG geometry. Only the clean circuit outline is displayed; labels, corner names and background artwork from the originals have been removed, and presentation styling has been modified. The geometry and proportions of each outline are preserved from its source.
